Benjamin Rush: Understanding His Ties to Slavery

Remembering Benjamin Rush

When thinking about slavery's legacy as it relates to the histories of American educational institutions, it is impossible not to think about Benjamin Rush. An adamant abolitionist, but also a slaveholder, Rush was a complicated thinker and an even more complicated person. This project seeks to provide more information about Rush, his relationship with his slave William Grubber, his legacy in regards to abolition and African Americans' rights, and how Dickinson remembers Rush today.
